Audition Central

Your favorite practically perfect nanny takes center stage in this Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious adventure based on the award-winning Broadway musical and classic Walt Disney film.

The jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family members how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones upon whom she has a profound effect. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “Anything can happen if you let it.”

Cameron Mackintosh and Disney’s Mary Poppins JR. is an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs and breathtaking dance numbers”

Audition Material

*Please note that every audition requires a vocal song of choice in addition to the material provided below. Please limit this to 32 bars of music (approx. 1 minute in length)

*If a role provides 2 sides, please include both in your submission

*Please only sing the excerpt of the song indicated in the score

*In addition to being the “right fit”, here is a sample form of what the audition panel is looking for

Above are the roles we will use to gather audition submissions. Other roles that we’ll be casting for include:

Robertson Ay (Male)

The houseboy to the Banks family. Forgetful and clumsy, he often bungles simple tasks. He doesn’t do a lot of singing, but he should be a good comedic actor. Note: his last name is pronounced like “eye.”

Mrs. Brill (Female)

The housekeeper and cook for the Banks family. Overworked, she’s always complaining that the house is understaffed. Her intimidating exterior is a cover for the warmth underneath. She does not have to be a strong singer, but she should be a solid actor.

Neleus

Neleus is a statue who, once brought to life by Mary Poppins, is very happy to befriend Jane and Michael. This role is a wonderful opportunity to feature a strong dancer

Katie Nanna (Female)

Katie Nanna is Jane and Michael’s nanny at the beginning of the show. Overwhelmed and upset, she has absolutely had her fill of the Banks children. T

Clerks

The Clerks, like George, are employees at the bank. These roles require actors who can sing.

Miss Smythe

Miss Smythe is the bank Chairman’s humorless secretary.

Chariman

Chairman, the head of the bank where Mr. Banks is employed, is an Edwardian stuffed shirt. He does not need to be a strong singer, but he should be a great stage presence.

Von Hussler

The editor of the World who advises Pulitzer, but ultimately admires the kids’ newspaper.

Mrs. Corry

Mrs. Corry owns a magical Talking Shop. She is a mysterious woman of indeterminate age, but has plenty of spirit and is sharp as a tack. Casting an excellent actor who’s not afraid to be over the top in this fun role.

Chimney Sweeps

Chimney Sweeps (including Sweep 1,
Sweep 2, Sweep 3, and Sweep 4) are Bert’s cheerful, friendly, and agile friends who keep London’s chimneys in working order. These actors should be great dancers and good singers, capable of bringing the show-stopping number “Step In Time” to life.

Customers/Park Strollers/ Passerby’s

The Park Strollers are citizens of London who go from drab and dreary to bright and colorful as they get swept up in Mary Poppins’s adventures in the park. The Customers are bright, colorful British citizens visiting Mrs. Corry’s Talking Shop.

Please pick the material from the above materials menu that best shows off who you are and what you bring to the table - even if you’re auditioning for a role that you may not prefer, we use those submissions to cast the aforementioned roles as well.

FAQ

  • Please learn ALL songs provided for the character you are auditioning for. Reminder that each audition is required to have a song of choice as well

  • You are only required to learn and perform the provided excerpts for the songs. Please consult the score/sheet music provided to see the section of the song we’ll be looking for. You can find the time stamps by practicing along with the guide vocal track - those will apply to the performance track you’ll use for the audition tape.

  • Please sing only what is labelled as the character you are auditioning for. Blank space in a song is a great chance to show us your listening and reacting skills. Place yourself in the number and become your character - you can show us your understanding of character both while you are singing and while you are ‘waiting’.

  • If you have a friends of family member that can be off-camera reading the lines of other characters in your script. awesome! It’s up to you whether you look at them or just off them off camera as a voice as you picture your scene partner. Either way. make sure you’re looking above the camera and not off to whoever is reading. If you don’t have someone to read the other lines, no problem! Still wait as if the line is being said, and use that time to react and stay in the flow of conversation.

  • You can record your dance material submission over the music in the video provided. Just be sure to not be watching the video during your recording. We want to see you PERFORM the number to the camera!

  • Choose any song that showcases the individuality of your voice and personality! It can be anything from a radio pop song to a country song to another musical theatre selection. We’d love you to do 1:00 minute of the song to a karaoke track so we can really hear you shine. Choose any song that you love to sing, that is in your range, and that is appropriate for your age.
